Dawn of the New Riders of the Purple Sage - 5 CD

from Bear's Sonic Journals

More than 5 hours of never-before released recordings from the earliest days of the New Riders of the Purple Sage.

The band consists of:
John “Marmaduke” Dawson (guitar, vocals),
Jerry Garcia (pedal steel),
David Nelson (electric guitar),
Mickey Hart (drums),
Bob Matthews / Dave Torbert (bass).

Highlights also include 9 songs with guest artist Bobby “Ace” Weir and two tracks with Will Scarlett on harmonica.

  • 16 page booklet containing rare and previously unpublished vintage photographs.
  • Liner Notes by NRPS Historian with additional notes based on interviews with Dave Nelson and Bob Weir.
  • Original cover art by Owsley’s daughter Nina, based on a drawing by Owsley’s son, Starfinder.
  • Cutting edge sound: Plangent Processing technology was used to ensure the most accurate transfer from Owsley’s source tapes. The mastering was done by Jeffrey Norman (Mockingbird Mastering), long-time collaborator with the Grateful Dead and Owsley Stanley.
